5 Online Literary Magazines
You Must Read

4 June 2008, the poet @ 8:57 pm

If you like to read online literature you’ve got to try these five online literary journals:

  • 3:AM Magazine - I love their tagline: “Whatever it is, we’re against it.” You might think that says it all, but you’ve got to read the magazine. They publish interviews, fiction, flash fiction, poetry, music, criticism, nonfiction, and opinions. This isn’t high-brow literature. It’s a little bit kitschy and somewhat odd, but enjoyable. A sort of David Lynch weirdness all over. No need to go to college to read great literature. Just read 3:AM Magazine.
  • The Adirondack Review - The Adirondack Review is an independent online literary journal and is one of the few journals online that publishes material on an ongoing basis. They publish poetry, fiction, film reviews, and interviews and each issue has a featured poet with an interview that is chosen by the staff. The Adirondack Review is real literature without the head cold.
  • The Kenyon Review Online - The Kenyon Review needs no introduction. Their reputation has withstood the test of time. Now you can enjoy some of their best work online. Recently, this journal introduced the online version of its print journal and includes poetry, fiction, essays, and reviews. Don’t miss The Kenyon Review Online.
  • The New Verse News - A politically progressive poetry journal that looks like a blog. That might sound gaudy, but this is far from gaudy. They’ve actually done a real good job of producing a literary journal that you can be proud to read. It’s all poetry. All left wing. And they publish one poem every day. Read The New Verse News
  • Webdelsol - I don’t quite know how to describe Webdelsol. It’s been online a long time and is credited with being the first real poetry journal online. It certainly is the longest lasting. Reviews, podcasts, videos, essays, poetry, fiction, multimedia; if it exists, chances are Webdelsol does it. You can get lost on their website for days and never find your way out. This is an online literary compendium of the highest order. Webdelsol is like water; you can’t live without it.

There is only one place where you can read all five literary magazines at the click of a button. The World Class Poetry Toolbar is free to download, free of malware or malicious viruses, and a lot of fun. Read literature, listen to the radio, and keep up with your favorite blogs all at once. It’s like air. Goes with water.
