WSJ Interviews Poet Robert Hass
15 December 2007, the poet @ 8:54 pm

Yesterday, the Wall Street Journal ran an interview with Robert Hass. He says a lot of great things about a lot of great poets. The range is marvelous:

  • Czeslaw Milosz
  • Walt Whitman
  • Emily Dickinson
  • Charles Bukowski
  • Bob Dylan
  • Robert Frost
  • Ross MacDonald
  • Allen Ginsberg
  • T.S. Eliot
  • Denise Levertov
  • Gary Snyder

That’s a wonderful chorus of poetic voices. He even manages to slip in a reference to Lola Montez. Robert Hass is a poet who understands American poetics. It makes me wonder if our beloved president knows any of these names and which ones he’d butcher if he tried to pronounce them.

Allen, Thank you for mentioning this. I’d not heard about the article yet, and I like Hass.
